Tammy Watson shared with members of our ‘Extreme Budget DIY & Life Hacks’ Facebook group how she transformed a bog standard Kallax unit into a wardrobe, perfect for her baby!
Tammy and her partner choose the white Kallax 4 x 3 unit (112 x 147cm) for the bedroom. They also purchased 4 cupboard inserts and 4 drawer inserts that are compatible with the Kallax unit from IKEA.
They were able to leave out 2 shelves to create hanging storage for their daughters clothes and used the inserts to surround it.
The total cost for the pieces from IKEA: £164
Here’s the breakdown:
Kallax (112 x 147cm) in white = £60
4 x Kallax insert with door = £36
4 x Kallax insert with 2 drawers = £68
The best thing about this hack is that you can customise it any way you want. IKEA also offer inserts like additional shelves, pegboards, mirrors doors, glass doors and bright coloured doors.
